The Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County embarked on a project to revamp their website and brand identity with a goal in mind; to make it easy for visitors to navigate and find information related to adoption, donation and volunteering. The aim was to enhance functionality and create a welcoming and purpose driven atmosphere. To achieve this, I created a plan and strategy through site maps and wireframes so that every aspect of the new site was accounted for and established before design began. The website’s user friendly interface and visually appealing features helped users easily access the desired information and fostered an emotional connection with the Humane Society’s mission. As a result, community engagement and support increased significantly.

In addition to overhauling the website, I collaborated with essential stakeholders to establish a visual rebranding effort aimed at maintaining brand consistency and guiding forthcoming marketing and creative endeavors. The images above and below showcase a revamped logo and style guide, leveraging the existing brand while reimagining key elements to rejuvenate the brand with a fresh and relevant energy.
Prior to the design or coding phase, I develop site outlines, site maps, and comprehensive wireframes to ensure alignment with client requirements, strategic goals, and project scope. The site’s structure is designed around bite-sized, easily adaptable information chunks, facilitating multiple layout configurations for responsive design. Additionally, these wireframes serve as a content structure framework, providing copywriters with defined parameters to work within.
After the plan is set in place, I create design directions with key pages. They act as functional mood boards for the rest of the site.
The Memphis Humane Society’s mission to rescue and rehabilitate animals in need was amplified by the attention to the website’s photographic style and cohesiveness. I curated a collection of heartwarming, candid, and emotionally resonant photographs allowing the website to not only create a sense of community but also radiate authenticity and purpose. These carefully chosen images allowed visitors to connect on a deeply emotional level. This visual narrative wove a powerful thread of unity among supporters, volunteers, and donors, instilling a shared commitment to the Memphis Humane Society’s vital mission of saving the lives of animals that have suffered from injury, abuse, and neglect and finding them new loving homes.
Branded, energetic Call-to-Actions (CTAs) were strategically crafted and seamlessly integrated throughout the Memphis Humane Society’s website, instilling a sense of urgency and purpose. These visually distinctive elements, extended beyond the website, making appearances in ads, social media campaigns, and various outreach efforts, allowing the Humane Society to stand out in the community. These CTAs served as rallying points, compelling visitors to take action and make a difference by donating, adopting, or volunteering, reinforcing the society’s commitment to its mission of compassion and animal welfare.
The result was a resounding success with almost double the amount of visitors in the first 90 days of launch reaching over 30,000 visitors.
